IT System Basics

IT System and Server Fundamentals, ignore at your own peril.

About

May 3, 2011

The IT Systems Basics blog is directed to IT Professionals tasked with
maintaining and supporting complex web and database servers.

This blog captures my observations of working with these systems since
1995.

It is fundamentally orientated as the basics have been often overlooked
in the technology rush forward.

Many of the observations on physical servers apply equally to virtual
servers in the cloud. Most of the observations apply both to Windows and
Unix/Linux platforms.

Scripts and recipes to correct more complex problems will be provided in
the context of the system and application to be supported.

Generally consensus best practices and vendor recommendations will be
cited as appropriate.

However as with all IT matters no warranty is provided. Use the advice
provided at your own peril.

Please let me know of factual errors in order that I can make
corrections.
